In the next few decades we hope to place humans on Mars, mine the asteroid belt, explore the Ice Giant planets, and search for life on Europa and Enceladus. That will be done not by today’s generation of scientists and engineers, but by the generation at school today. In this talk Prof. Alan Fitzsimmons from Queen’s University Belfast will cover how we have explored our Solar System in the past, what we plan to do in the next 10 years, and what will follow. Concentrating on Key Stage 3 (Earth & Universe/Solar System) and Key Stage 4 (Space travel/space physics), ideas and concepts relevant to the curriculum will be introduced and explained supported by a range of stunning images of space.
